The UK trade reference · checked November 2026

Trade bodies.
Know what the badge means.

A register, a trade association and an insurance-backed guarantee do different jobs. Find the body behind the name, check its scope and see what to ask before joining or booking work.

Start with the trade below, or filter by a name such as MCS, Gas Safe or TrustMark. These guides cover 86 organisations and schemes. They do not claim that every useful local or specialist body is listed.

TrustMark is not Trustmark Trades. TrustMark is the government-endorsed scheme at trustmark.org.uk. Trustmark Trades is independent, not affiliated with or endorsed by TrustMark. A Trustmark Trades listing does not imply TrustMark registration.

Three checks before you book

  1. Check whether the work needs a statutory registration or a particular certification.
  2. Use the body’s official search and match the person, business and work category.
  3. Keep the contract, compliance certificates and any separate guarantee or insurance policy.
